Halloween Cosmetic Contacts – See Your Optometrist First!

Thursday, October 20, 2016

While zombie eyes or cat eye pupils might seem like a cool trick to enhance this year’s Halloween costume, it is no treat when serious eye damage occurs. The Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) warns that vision loss, sometimes permanent, can result from improper use of cosmetic contact lenses. While costume contact lenses do not correct vision there is no difference between cosmetic and corrective (prescription) contact lenses in the way they are inserted and interact with the eye and the care they require.

Vision is precious. If novelty contact lenses are the finishing touch for your Halloween costume, see your doctor of optometry first. Your optometrist will assess your eye health, fit your lenses and provide the training for proper use and handling. Don’t have an optometrist? Find one in your area: https://opto.ca/find_doc
